Soil state and trend
The importance Natural Capital Accounting to support and improve the Earth’s ecosystem services has recently gained significant attention.
Soil is one of our greatest natural assets, with the health and condition of soil being highly influential to the health and condition of other natural assets and ecosystem services (e.g. supporting growth of trees).
Whilst the need to accurately account for the soil asset within a broader natural capital framework is paramount, there is no appropriate infrastructure to allow for the account of Australia’s soil and its condition at either national, regional or local spatial scales.
ANSIS presents a significant opportunity to build this infrastructure, thus allowing various natural capital frameworks to engage with and account for soil condition in their assessments.
This use case will demonstrate by example how ANSIS may be engaged with to support the account of soils into Natural Capital frameworks.
